From MuseuM ReproductionS, these slender 1 and 1/2 inches (37mm) long clip-on earrings are inspired by the Akuaba dolls of West Africa. Gold-plated, theirs is a simple clip. The originals - carved in wood, blackened and then polished - were nestled in the carrying cloths of the pregnant women of the Ashanti tribe of Ghana. They were thought to ensure the birth of a beautiful and healthy child.
