New York designer Katherine Kornblau uses dyed pearls as beautiful accents for the approximately 14mm (9/16 inch) "pillow" of the mesmerizing, manmade gemstone Goldstone in these non-pierced drop earrings. On the left, the gemstone is traditional Goldstone (reddish brown) with a gold-plated chain that holds champaign colored pearls and Goldstone beads anchored by a vermeil disc with a brushed finish. On the right the gemstone is Blue Goldstone (dark - almost black - blue), the chain is silver with gray pearls, Blue Goldstone beads and a brushed silver disc. Hanging from a hinged screwback clip, their overall length is just under 2 and 3/4 inches (69mm).
About Goldstone: its metallic gleam is created by adding copper salts to colored liquid glass which is held at a specific temperature for a length of time, and then allowed to cool. It is believed to have originated centuries ago with Italian monks using alchemy to try to make gold from common materials. Online Sale Price:
